GdS: The truth regarding Lazio’s meeting over Romagnoli as Juventus probe

By Oliver Fisher -

Sunday’s game between AC Milan and Lazio will have an added layer of intrigue as Alessio Romagnoli’s future continues to remain a mystery.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report how there was a meeting between Romagnoli’s entourage and Lazio president Claudio Lotito seven days ago but the operation cannot be considered as one step away from the finish line.

Lazio started from a base of €2-2.2m net per season plus bonuses, a five-year contract and a role as a protagonist within their project. During the meeting, the capital club then got to €2.5m per season, adding €500k in bonuses that are not all easily accessible and which include for the achievement of important objectives.

However, they are still not close. The request is €3.3-3.5m as a fixed base per season, with another €500k of more easily accessible bonuses. The parties have not so far set another meeting and while Romagnoli has given priority to Lazio, this does not mean that he has to accept different conditions than what he is looking for.

How will it end? If Lotito remains at €2.5m per season then it could drag on, but if he raised the offer to what Romagnoli wants it could be closed with a phone call. In the meantime, Juventus have probed.
