As seems to be the case every year, AC Milan are heading into the summer needing to restructure their attacking department.

The defence has regained solidity thanks to the work of Massimiliano Allegri and his staff, while attacking output has often been lacklustre. La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Robert Lewandowski is a leading candidate try help fix things, though some outgoings are expected too.

A department revolutionised?

Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic, once the dream duo in the summer, have turned into symbols of great regret and what could have been. Leao and Pulisic have alternated time spent on the pitch because of injury issues, and when they have played they haven’t clicked.

Rafa hasn’t scored in over a month, Pulisic since the end of 2025. Leao has a €170m release clause, a figure now far from his true value, and could be negotiated for much less, perhaps around €70-80m.

Pulisic, once the goalscoring twin, has gradually declined and hasn’t scored since last December. A joyless 2026. The last-ditch effort is to bring him back at least as an assist provider, i.e. as a winger in a three-pronged attack.

Pulisic had scored eight league goals from August to December, a streak he has never matched. He’s been without a goal for over a hundred days. Along with his goal-scoring streak, the path to Casa Milan to sign a new contract has also been lost.

The USA international is tied to Milan until the summer of 2027, with an option for a one-year extension. A new contract seemed imminent, but then it was repeatedly postponed until it faded into the distant future, and who knows if it will ever be a topic again.
