CM: Leao and Theo go quiet on Milan’s left flank – the tactical change Pioli must consider

By Oliver Fisher -

Not even AC Milan’s lethal left side could drag the rest of the underperforming attack to wins in the last two games against Bologna and Torino.

Calciomercato.com recall how since the derby win over Inter earlier in the year, Milan have played 8 games, scoring 7 goals, 2 of which came against Salernitana in a draw, and 0 were scored in the last two against Bologna and Torino.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is struggling to stay fit and will be frustrated about not having been able to contribute, while Olivier Giroud scored vital goals against Inter and Napoli but has gone missing in the last few games. Ante Rebic is now even getting injured at Milanello, Brahim Diaz is in a bad patch that is now months long, and the right wing offers nothing.

Rafael Leao is the most devastating winger in the league in terms of beating players off the dribble and he has 8 league goals for the season, but he has not netted since February 25 against Udinese.

There has to be questions about his use, as per the report, such as whether Pioli should let him fully commit to attacking so he doesn’t have to constantly worry about covering for Theo Hernandez.

Speaking of Theo, the left wing is where Milan have two of their strongest players and they have been crucial at times this season, but even the Frenchman is becoming predictable as essentially a box-to-box midfielder with his runs through the middle.

That is why the switch to a pure 4-3-3 where Tonali, Kessie and either Bennacer, Bakayoko or Krunic play together must be explored, so the best attacking players can go forward and those capable of breaking up play stick to what they do best. Maybe then goals will follow.

  1. Theo should consider giving some ball to Leao so that lLeao will score the goals .Theo will try going in the he lose the ball.

Leao is the jet they should pass him the balls.

  2. How bout bringing rebic back to the starting line up, instead of luky Dubey all the time with his runs with goals

  3. Our coach is the problem, simple. He is a very good coach. But afraid and sometimes he makes bad decisions. Afraid to shout at some of the players, when they make mistakes, especially Leon he doesn’t tackle whenever he loses the ball. He will be coming like nobody’s business.
