In the 26th minute of France’s win over Ireland last night, Giroud left the field with a left ankle issue, which instantly provoked fears that he might be out for a while and would miss the derby. The player tried to reassure fans after the game, but it was obvious he was in pain.

L’Equipe (via Luca Maninetti) confirmed a few minutes ago that the scans on Giroud’s ankle by the French medical staff did not reveal anything serious, but he will not be risked in the friendly against Germany over the weekend.

Thus, the choice was made by Giroud and agreed upon by Didier Deschamps that the best course of action was for him to return to Italy where he will rejoin the squad left at Milanello.

The 36-year-old but be evaluated Rossoneri staff, but it seems that Pioli can breathe a sigh of relief in view of the derby against Inter on 16 September, the first match after the break.
