L’Equipe: Giroud avoids serious injury but will return to Milanello as a precaution

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud has escaped any severe problem with his ankle but he will return to Milanello as a precaution, according to a report from France.

In the 26th minute of France’s win over Ireland last night, Giroud left the field with a left ankle issue, which instantly provoked fears that he might be out for a while and would miss the derby. The player tried to reassure fans after the game, but it was obvious he was in pain.

L’Equipe (via Luca Maninetti) confirmed a few minutes ago that the scans on Giroud’s ankle by the French medical staff did not reveal anything serious, but he will not be risked in the friendly against Germany over the weekend.

Thus, the choice was made by Giroud and agreed upon by Didier Deschamps that the best course of action was for him to return to Italy where he will rejoin the squad left at Milanello.

The 36-year-old but be evaluated Rossoneri staff, but it seems that Pioli can breathe a sigh of relief in view of the derby against Inter on 16 September, the first match after the break.

  1. Personally I don’t think these players have enough games. On top of the league, a euro qualifier and a friendly in the same week surely they could squeeze in a coppa italia match before the derby?

    1. yup. and a global competition. A mix of all the “champion leagues”. Id take the clubs that made semis in eu, muricas, africa and asia and let them have at it in a brand new sexy tournament.

  2. I didn’t like Luka Jovic, he plays very weakly upfront and he’s not Sharp.I’d better start okafor or Luka Romero as a CF against Newcastle and inter.
