Monaco's French midfielder #19 Youssouf Fofana

L’Equipe: Milan, Arsenal and PSG all enquire about Monaco star with sale likely

AC Milan are interested in signing Youssouf Fofana this summer but they are one of several clubs who have spoken with his entourage, a report claims.

According to a report from L’Équipe, Monaco are preparing to sell Fofana because he has just one year remaining on his deal at AS Monaco and there is nothing to suggest that a renewal is imminent or even that positive talks have been held.

“He is probably one of the players that we are open to selling. We will see the opportunities that he has,” club’s CEO Thiago Scuro revealed earlier this month, essentially inviting offers from other clubs for the France international.

Last summer clubs such as Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Fulham came forward to try sign Fofana but this summer it seems he has a much better choice. Arsenal, Milan, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain that are showing interest, therefore a much higher calibre of club.

All of the aforementioned clubs have spoken with Fofana’s entourage but none of them are currently in concrete negotiations over acquiring the 25-year-old. The report goes on to add that a deal is not expected to be wrapped up before the European Championship, which begins on June 15.

Milan are looking for a midfielder who can protect the defence which too exposed to opposing attacks in transition during the season that has just finished, and the profile matches.

    1. Defensive midfielders tend be underrated compared to offensive or central midfielders. I remember seeing some “fantasy dream teams” with a midfield 3 made of Zidane, Zico and Maradona and I think we all remember Real Madrid ditching Makelele for Beckham and how well that went from them…
So yes I think the management doesn’t even know what a defensive midfielder is and this “algorithm” seems to favour midfielders who are ball carriers, runners, scorers,… and probably players who are more likely to see their value double or triple in a couple of years.
The transfer window hasn’t started yet, but the fact that the only true defensive midfielder we’ve been linked to si Amrabat is quite worrying.

      1. This, exactly this!
So much hype on attack minded players and nothing on mids that can defend much less try

    2. Yeah thats exaclty why top team hire conte. He lay basic defending system to the squad and other coach will develop their attacking after he leave. Is not about the player, i know they important too, but the whole team must have great defensive system to become a champion. With number concede goal milan have, its a sign that they need to sign coach who can lay defensive system before buying the player.
