L’Equipe: Monaco and Porto to rival Milan for defensive target

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are not expected to get a clear run at Stade Brest defender Lilian Brassier as Monaco and Porto have both expressed an interest in signing him, a report claims.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe (via Pianeta Milan), Milan will have to get the better of both Monaco and Porto if they are to sign Brassier in the January transfer window.

In terms of who can offer Brassier the best overall package, Porto have the great bargaining chip of a Champions League Round of 16 tie against Premier League side Arsenal. Any player would love to be involved in that occasion.

Milan can offer Europa League football which will start with a two-legged tie against Stade Rennes, whilst Monaco do not currently have any European football to offer but they are on track to qualify for the Champions League via Ligue 1.

Ironically, Brassier came through the youth ranks at Rennes so were he to be involved there for Milan, it could be a very personal occasion.

Brest would certainly like to keep Brassier for the rest of the season given they are in fourth place in Ligue 1, but a bid of around €10m could force them into a deal next month.
