L’Equipe: NBA legend tried to convince Kalulu to stay at Lyon but Maldini won the battle

By Oliver Fisher -

Lyon went to tremendous efforts to try and convince Pierre Kalulu to stay before he agreed to join AC Milan, a report claims.

The French talent arrived in Italy on Tuesday evening ahead of his medical on Wednesday and will be the first summer reinforcement for the Rossoneri, signing a five-year deal.

French news outlet L’Équipe (via GFFN) claim that Lyon went to great lengths to try and convince the 20-year-old to sign a professional contract with them.

The report claims that a number of senior players were told to call Kalulu to try to convince him to remain in France with legendary former NBA player Tony Parker even making a personal attempt to persuade Kalulu.

However he will instead start a new adventure in Italy thanks to a report by the chief scout Geoffrey Moncada and the decisive lunge of technical director Paolo Maldini, who convinced the player just as he did with Theo Hernandez last summer.

As per L’Equipe, Kalulu told Lyon that his decision had nothing to do with money but rather the guarantees that the Rossoneri offered.
