The last few weeks have been quite intense for Milan, with many negotiations being carried out at the same time. One of them was with Chelsea over Maignan, whose contract renewal never materialised in the spring, leaving an opening for the English side.
However, the clubs failed to reach an agreement on the transfer fee, and then the deadline for the pre-Club World Cup transfer window arrived. Now, Milan have made it a priority to revitalise the renewal talks with their star goalkeeper.
According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Max Allegri has scheduled a meeting with Maignan. The Rossoneri’s new head coach has always said that he wants to keep the No.16 and he will make that extra clear in the meeting, outlining the important role he has in mind.
From there, if the two find themselves on good terms, Igli Tare will also revive the renewal talks in an attempt to keep him beyond 2026. As said, there was an agreement in place during the spring but the ‘old management’ didn’t hold up their end of the bargain.
With Allegri and Tare, perhaps the negotiations can have a very different outcome, possibly with a slightly higher renewal offer involved. What’s clear is that the duo are very keen on keeping Maignan in the team as one of the leaders.
