Longo: Mirante likely to remain at Milan despite not making an appearance yet

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are likely to keep Antonio Mirante around for another year by extending his deal, according to the latest from one journalist.

Mirante arrived at Milan during the goalkeeping emergency that the Rossoneri experienced between October and November when Mike Maignan has his wrist problem that required surgery. At the time, that meant that Ciprian Tatarusanu was the new No.1 so Alessandro Plizzari being out on loan it meant there was no suitable back-up.

According to what is being reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com on Twitter, there is a ‘good chance’ that Mirante now renews his contract for another season, therefore extending his stay into the 2022-23 campaign.

Of course with Mirante there is the added bonus – in addition to him being an experienced and reliable third choice goalkeeper – of him counting as a homegrown player for the UEFA and Serie A squad lists. What it means for the future of Plizzari remains to be seen.
