Longoni: Kessie’s failure could benefit Milan in Bennacer and Leao renewal talks

Franck Kessie decided to leave AC Milan on a free transfer in the summer and he has since struggled to impose himself at Barcelona. It’s a development that actually could help the Rossoneri with a few renewals.

Just like Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu, Kessie opted for money instead of renewing with Milan. He has played just 418 minutes for Barcelona (spread across 12 games) thus far and when he has been given the chance, he hasn’t impressed.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, Andrea Longoni discussed the important renewals of Ismael Bennacer and Rafael Leao. The two are key players for Milan and Kessie’s decision to leave could actually help the Rossoneri in the talks.

“In the meantime, their former teammate Kessie may have a better salary, but now he’s clearly the reserve of the reserves. ‘At Milan it was different’, he admitted disappointingly a few days ago. He could represent an example not to be followed by Bennacer and also Leao,” he stated.

Talk are underway with both players and it remains to be seen what the outcome will be. The Leao negotiations are significantly tougher, not just because of the Sporting fine but also the winger’s demands.
