Longoni: Kessie’s failure could benefit Milan in Bennacer and Leao renewal talks

By Isak Möller -

Franck Kessie decided to leave AC Milan on a free transfer in the summer and he has since struggled to impose himself at Barcelona. It’s a development that actually could help the Rossoneri with a few renewals.

Just like Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu, Kessie opted for money instead of renewing with Milan. He has played just 418 minutes for Barcelona (spread across 12 games) thus far and when he has been given the chance, he hasn’t impressed.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, Andrea Longoni discussed the important renewals of Ismael Bennacer and Rafael Leao. The two are key players for Milan and Kessie’s decision to leave could actually help the Rossoneri in the talks.

“In the meantime, their former teammate Kessie may have a better salary, but now he’s clearly the reserve of the reserves. ‘At Milan it was different’, he admitted disappointingly a few days ago. He could represent an example not to be followed by Bennacer and also Leao,” he stated.

Talk are underway with both players and it remains to be seen what the outcome will be. The Leao negotiations are significantly tougher, not just because of the Sporting fine but also the winger’s demands.

  1. The Kessie that I know will bounce back stronger than ever. I hope he does well at Barca because he deserves to go higher. He paid his dues at Milan even if he went for free.

  2. What?
    This is hilarious.
Same thing media was saying about Giggio this time last year.
Kessie situation at Barca will have zero influence on Leao and Bennacer negotiations or future plans. These are professional players who have unlimited confidence and belief in themselves. They are not going to be scared to leave just because another player isn’t having a good start of the season in another club .
This is such a weak mentality.
If they decide to leave as Kessie , and get paid more , they will also face tougher competition in their new clubs. It’s a challenge to prove and improve themselves. That’s how you grow and get better. In Milan they have no competition, not because they are so good , but because Milan doesn’t have the money to have 2 starters at every position as most big clubs do and push them to get better.
Plus , it’s not like Kessie and Giggio left for the same money Milan was offering as Hakan did.
Giggio got 4 mil extra a year at PSG.
Kessie getting 2.5 mil extra at Barca.
It’s just business and his contract is guaranteed

    1. P.S
Especially in Leao situation where he actually owes his previous club almost 20 million Euros.
He isn’t worried about Kessie situation at Barca.
If an EPL club offers him 10 mi a season while Milan is offering only 5 or 6, it’s an easy choice.
Wouldn’t want him to leave but I also wouldn’t hold him against him if he did.
