Luca Toni tells Milan to go for Real Madrid striker amid Mbappe’s imminent arrival

By Euan Burns -

Luca Toni has urged AC Milan to try and make a move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo who could get less game time with Kylian Mbappe set to join the club.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera), the former Italian striker was asked about what Milan should be doing this summer to ensure that they have a quality new striker to replace Olivier Giroud.

The likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Serhou Guirassy and Benjamin Sesko are the names being linked most heavily with the job, but Toni thinks that Milan could pursue some much bigger names playing for some of Europe’s best sides.

He highlighted Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez as potentially available given Erling Haaland is their starter.

“If City’s Julian Alvarez no longer wanted to be on the bench, he would be a player who has already won and is used to winning. I would go for those players from the big teams who have less space,” Toni said.

Perhaps aiming even higher, Toni thinks that there is an opportunity for Milan to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid given Mbappe could be about to arrive and take his place in the team.

“Rodrygo from Real Madrid also comes to mind , who is someone I would take immediately if they had to sell him. You know, with the arrival of Mbappe there will be a lot of chaos in that advanced position. It is therefore better to be a protagonist at Milan, rather than playing less. Rather than being on the bench, I would embrace a project from a top club like the Rossoneri,” he said.

Whilst these are names that would certainly get the Milan fanbase excited, it is fair to assume that their wage demands would be far too high for a club like Milan right now, without even factoring the transfer fees and agent’s commissions.

  1. It’s useless to tell Milan about good players or coaches. Even if it’s free, they won’t be able to pay salaries. They don’t want to move forward.

    1. I agree but im hoping once the stadium is built things will be different. Thats the main focus of management rite now. Its a bitter sweet thing cus owning a stadium will def increase revenue and spending power. Hopefully they do decide to spend WISELY pnce the stafium is built 🤷🏻‍♂️

      1. 2 more years to fix regulation, 5 years to build stadium, mean 7 years w/ short budget, salary cap, buy cheap sell high, sell 1 star to buy some unknown

  2. 😀 the guy is mainly a right wing and has a valuation of 100 mil according to transfermarkt and probably earns an annual sack of gold, sure thing Toni. Id suggest Toni to advice Fiorentina to buy Haaland then.

  3. Yeah 👍.
Rodygo if is put on the market is going to be sold for more money than any Milan player but Toni says that Milan should sign him.
Rodrigo isn’t going for less than 100 mil. Neither Milan nor any other serie A club can pay that.

  4. No one in their right mind offloads Rodrygo on loan. He is still very relevant in world football and can yield a nice payday.

  5. Yes, Toni is insane. I know we lack the financial muscle to get these guys. But… Just for the sake of it, imagine an attacking midfield trio of Rodrygo, Pulisic and Leão, with Álvarez leading the line! Oh boy… That’d be nice wouldn’t it?

    1. Why don’t you people just face facts the old days are not coming back you will have to live with what you’ve got and that’s sixth or seventh in seria and third rate. players.Lets be fair what decent player wouldcome to milan at the moment the way things are. Now they are going to bring in forseca just another pioli .Even zlatan is a scared to say anything he’s told to shut up. It’s the worst state I have ever seen ac milan in.

      1. You cant have seen much then as we just ended up on 2nd place and i do remember milan ending up 11th place twice in a row in the 90ies. Seriously Daniel even stated that we lack the financial muscle to buy him and so did everyone else around here from what ive seen. Clearly you are just trying to troll and pretty much failed at it.
