MN: Maignan suffers calf problem – he could miss the World Cup as his 2022 is likely over

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has suffered another muscle problem and his 2023 is likely to be over, according to a report.

MilanNews reports that Milan have communicated officially how Maignan suffered an injury to the soleus muscle of his right leg during training this afternoon. The Rossoneri goalkeeper will be re-evaluated in 10 days, which usually means we are looking at an absence of multiple weeks.

It is therefore a different injury than the one he sustained on September 23 with the national team, when he suffered a problem with the medial twin of his left calf.

The report adds that his call-up for the World Cup is at risk and it is very likely that Milan will get him back only in 2023, which is a bitterly disappointing blow for Maignan and for Stefano Pioli who hoped to have him back even in time for the game against Monza on Saturday evening.

    1. Maignan himself said that he asked to play vs Verona but Milan decided he isn’t ready.
So sometimes injuries can be blamed on the players who pushed themselves to far in training or during recovery.

  1. Ooof thats such a big blow for the team with crucial 7 games coming up. UCL will be an uphill battle. For the league we were hoping an easy set of games to pull ahead in the table.

Tata will need to work extra hard

  2. This sucks big time. I don’t even care about CL it’s Tara flapping at crosses in the league that worries me. Why do we never have a reliable backup keeper?

  3. 😭😭😭 last year was also during this period and the worst of it 2 times this year and still milan are gambling withonly Magnan without a back up. Wish you a quick recovery Super Mike, come back stronger

  4. Guys and complain… Milan should have signed Allison or Gabriel as our no 2 uhn?
Injuries are normal in sport…. don’t nag at every danm issue

    1. Finally a fan with common sense. Totally agree with you. This used to be a good forum but now its just a place for bitching.

  5. Can´t we play Mirante or Jungdal? This is a disaster. We´re lucky that it´s the WC and its only for 7 matches. Sad for Mike who will miss the WC

  6. Disaster. He gets injured an awful lot for a goalkeeper. What is he doing to get these injuries. Is he running that much and why?

  7. Apparently it is common to injure one of the other muscles in the calf when you have an existing injury there, due to overload on the muscles, so I’m assuming he has been pushing too hard to get back in a rush instead of letting it heal properly. If I’m sitting in the players area watching Tata flap at every cross in the box I would probably want to rush back into the team asap too, Tata scares me when he plays.

      1. Training with even the smallest injury somewhere usually means the body will compensate the hurting part somewhere else – which is most likely the cause of this injury as well. Returning too soon to the pitch.

  8. Why do more good players become injury prone this season, except leao who’s probably about to be sold, if extention’s not signed b4 wc next month.

  9. As Stefano try the gamble of switching players technically, cant we try Mirante? this should be quicker decision.

Truly, its isnt too comfortable watching tatarusanu plays.

  10. Devastating news….he is our leader back there best keeper in Italy and top 5 in world. pls get another keeper – Tata is atrocious.

  11. The remaining games are easy, on paper. If Tomori played like he did last season, it wouldn’t be a problem. I’d rather see Mirante or the child in goal. Remember how Donnarumma got his start…

  12. Noooooo!!!!

Mirante needs to play now, NOT Tata. Tata’s passing out of the back is HORRENDOUS. Re-watch the past few games if you didn’t notice; but it’s impossible not to notice — he would have WIDE open teammates (Kalulu, Theo, Tomori, Isma, etc.) and instead of keeping possession, he would blast a ball to the midfield stripe (even when under ZERO pressure from opponents). He would literally just stupidly choose to give the possession to the other team.

Also, he is TERRIBLE at coming off the line and getting any aerial balls. I know Mirante won’t be as good as Mike at this (very few if any GKs in the world are as good as Mike at this); but he will definitely be better than Tata.

Tata is glued to the ground and goal line on corner kicks and crosses and never gets balls he should easy to and get/catch.

    This is a complete disaster.

    1. True. For some strange reason Tata wants to give a looooooong pass (or actually it’s not a pass as it never finds the target) instead of building the play reliably player by player. We give the ball to the opponents for no good reason just because Tata doesn’t want to pass the ball to any of the defenders next to him. Infuriating to watch.

    2. This is an absolute summary of disadvantages of playing with Tata, a complete disaster. What many people don’t realise is that the success of the backline most of the time depends on the GK coordination because he sees everything. Tata is always in a rush to get the ball away from him or his goal area, and we desperately need to start form the back. Tying another GK will be the right call because WTF.

    1. We’ve seen that Pioli doesn’t always choose the best player/option. We won’t be seeing Mirante in goal unless Tata gets an injury. Unfortunately.

  13. Ugh. Super disappointing news. As said ad nauseum, Tata sucks. Defence is going to have to step up big. Hopefully with the recovery of Kjaer, we can line up with Theo, Tomori, Kjaer and Kalulu in the remaining 2022 matches, and one of the CMs will have to be more conservative to give extra cover. Set pieces, already a weak point, are going to be a total Russian Roulette.

  14. Tata doesn’t come out of his goal to meet the ball. It’s time we give the young goalkeeper a chance you will never know how good he will be. He must get a chance
