Matteo Moretto has shed some more light on the rumours that Mike Maignan could become a transfer target for Juventus.

The situation that surrounds Maignan is now well-known: he was close to leaving in the summer window when Chelsea came in, and his current contract expires at the end of the season with nothing suggesting a renewal is close.

Some alarming rumours have surfaced this week though regarding him potentially going to a rival. More specifically, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Juventus want to sign him on a free transfer as they see Maignan as the ideal man to help fill a deficiency in leadership and experience.

They are not the only team that have been linked though, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich thrown into the mix. During a video update on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Moretto took stock of the future of the 30-year-old.

“I’ve told you this many times, and I’ll say it again: negotiations for the renewal of Maignan – whose contract with Milan expires in June 2026 – are stalled,” he began.

“After a period in which both sides seemed very close to signing, they entered a stalemate because Milan decided to stall, asking for more time from his entourage, and slowing down the process leading to a signature for a variety of reasons.

“Maignan was close to Chelsea this summer; he said yes, but then the deal didn’t close because the two clubs couldn’t agree on the price. Today we arrive at October and let’s say that Maignan’s renewal with Milan is very difficult.

“The more time passes, the more complicated it becomes for Maignan to renew his contract with Milan. The January transfer window is approaching. What I already told you in a previous video is that the feeling is that Maignan could leave either in January for a fee, or in June on a free transfer.

“That’s the situation we have today. What I can tell you is that to date, Maignan’s name hasn’t been discussed internally at Juventus. It’s true, however, that if the conditions were right, especially financially, Juventus might consider Maignan, as other Italian clubs might.

“However, to date, this situation hasn’t been discussed internally. If Maignan were to become an opportunity in terms of the overall transaction price, then Juventus might even consider him. He’s certainly an important name for the transfer market. Currently, the most likely league is the Premier League. We’ll see…”

    Always pushing useless narrative.

It will surprise you all that he will sign a new contract and we continue with him.
