If it wasn’t blatantly clear already, Italian football is desperate for a change. Their omission from the World Cup does not even feel like one anymore, simply because they have not been there in so long. It is an embarrassing place to be in.
As a result, wholesale changes are expected this summer, with the FIGC planning a shakeup and it appears that Milan will play a role within that, directly and indirectly.
Maldini, Allegri and Guardiola
As La Repubblica write, via MilanNews, Giovanni Malagò, the favourite to become the new FIGC president, has already got a plan in place. In an ideal world, he would have Paolo Maldini leading Club Italia. The former defender would be open to a role within the national team set-up, according to previous reports.
In terms of the manager, Massimiliano Allegri is Malagò’s long-standing favourite. Reports linking the Milan manager to the role have slowed recently, but he remains very much in the frame, as does Antonio Conte.
A little more ambitiously, the potential president would consider a move for Pep Guardiola. However, it would potentially be a little too ambitious, considering he currently earns €24 million per season.
