CM.it: Maldini planning movements in defence – No.1 target could arrive for €30m

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan know that they must make some moves to shore up the defence during the summer transfer window and they have a couple of targets in mind, according to a report.

According to Calciomercato.it, Paolo Maldini and his associates have long been on the hunt for a top defender who can be partnered with Fikayo Tomori long-term, especially given Simon Kjaer’s physical problems and the fact he will turn 33 this year.

Sven Botman is the number one objective because the big Dutch centre-back has been identified as the right man for Pioli, both from a technical point of view but also perhaps the economic opportunity too.

It is believed that the ‘right amount’ to sell him would be €30m which is a large sum, but it takes into account the fact he is only 22 so could grow even further before his prime years and he was part of a team that won Ligue 1 last season despite PSG’s pressure.

However, Milan could also say goodbye to Alessio Romagnoli if he does not renew his contract, while the main alternative to Botman is Gleison Bremer of Torino who Inter are looking at to replace Stefan de Vrij whose deal is due to expire in 2023 and could be sold to raise funds.
