Maldini explains decision to keep Pioli at Milan: “He is the right man to lead the team”

It came as a shock to everyone, but AC Milan have decided to keep Stefano Pioli beyond this season. In other words, Ralf Rangnick won’t be the Rossoneri’s new manager as the parties agreed to take a step back.

Just after the game against Sassuolo, which Pioli’s side won by two goals to one, Milan announced that the manager has signed a two-year extension with the club. After the successful year it has been, result-wise, you can understand why.

In the official statement, technical director Paolo Maldini shared his thoughts on the decision and explained why it was taken. Given that Rangnick won’t arrive, the club legend is now likely to remain within the management.

“Stefano has become our coach in a very difficult moment. We have always maintained that it would take time to see the results of his work and we have confirmed that quality and professionalism always pay. He is the right man to lead the team we want: a successful team, young and hungry for victories,” he stated.

With just three games left of the season, Milan are currently in fifth place with 59 points following tonight’s win. However, both Roma (58) and Napoli (56) have a game in hand and could leapfrog the Rossoneri.
