Daniel Maldini’s performances at Monza have earned him early talks about another move, and AC Milan will be keeping a keen eye on proceedings.
During the weekend, it was reported that Milan do not have a ‘priority’ clause for Maldini, so there may not be a return to the Rossoneri as some may have hoped, especially if other clubs get into negotiations before.
However, this is the situation seemingly playing out. Calciomercato.com have reported that La Dea are currently in pole position to sign the youngster, and contacts are ‘quite advanced’ to pay the €12 million release clause in his contract.
It is possible that the fee could be paid in January, depending on Monza’s situation ahead of the mercato, and if a Serie A move occurred, the Diavolo would pocket €6, from the deal, as they did from Marco Brescianini’s move.
A move away from Italy would see Monza pocket €7.5m due to the elevated European release clause of €15m, the other 50% would, of course, go to Milan. The report suggests that the midfielder prefers to ‘remain a protagonist’ in Serie A, so a move to La Dea could be the best natural step forward to achieving this.
Moving to Atalanta could minimise the chances of a possible return to the Rossoneri one day, which could frustrate the fans, given the chance to extend the Maldini legacy.
