Mediaset: From €40m dream to most viable – Milan’s current list of RW targets

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are determined to strengthen the right wing department this summer and they have a number of targets in mind, it is claimed.

With the imminent change of ownership from Elliott Management to Investcorp, the budget available to Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara could increase and that is why a range of different options are being kept in mind.

As SportMediaset (via SempreMilan.it) reports, various profiles are being followed starting with the dream which is Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City. He is 31 years old, has a contract expiring in 2023 and has 43 appearances, 23 goals and 9 assists so far this season. His cost would be around €40m, but competition could be fierce.

Another profile that is very popular is that of Marco Asensio, also with a contract expiring in 2023. The most viable hypothesis, on the other hand, is represented by Domenico Berardi, who has long been liked by the Rossoneri management.

  1. Milan doesn’t need only starters, but need bench quality…
Milan needs depth…There are so many games each season and unfortunately Milan’s physio & medical team are not the best in the world…So we need quality players coming from the bench.
For me I would sign both Dybala (free transfer) and Berardi or Asensio.
Asensio can play on the left wing as well, when Leao is not available or when he is substituted.
Milan’s real problem this season (and the past one) was the lack of quality coming from the bench.

  2. Don’t believe this pricetag. He’s 31y and on his last year of contract. 40M is just a number from transfermarkt.

  3. i dont know about mahrez, but all other targets are well-rounded upgrade with not depreciating value.

though, i love saelesmaker as a player who can play defensive during heavy, tough defensive game during UCL. he should be our super-sub that can should play RW or RB in the future

  4. Mahrez is a bit expensive and he gets absolutely perfect service from his amazing passing teammates on City. I think we’d be disappointed in him and he wouldn’t live up to the pricetag.

I think Berardi and Dybala would be great. Dybala has played both RW and CAM positions a lot in his career so that’s a big reason why I like him best because our RW is weak and Diaz at CAM is weak. Dybala could play both positions.

Agree with the comments that our depth is a huge issue — so getting Dybala and then other players to be able to come off bench is important.

I think if we can get a decent deal on Asensio (maybe using Diaz as a bargaining chip of some sort giving him back to Madrid cheaply?), then he could end up being a star. He had ACL surgery in 2019 and he’s now starting to be back to full fitness. Before his injury, everyone talked about him as the next big superstar… he has great talent and his teammates really like him a lot. He’s a good team player.
