It’s not exactly a secret that Milan and Inter are looking to move on from the iconic San Siro, with plans to build a modern stadium next to it. However, it hasn’t exactly been easy to get the council on board.
Any team looking to build a stadium in Italy will struggle to do so, considering the number of bureaucratic instances you have to go through. And the case hasn’t been different for Milan and Inter, who have been planning the project for several years now.
Due to Inter’s financial struggles recently, the reliability of the project has taken another hit and Beppe Sala, the Mayor of Milan, has often made his criticism heard. He spoke about the matter once again, as cited by Calciomercato, raising a few points.
“I was disappointed to hear the words of Inter but I believe one shouldn’t care too much about words. Certainly, it’s not a problem with regards to the process, we will discuss the issue of San Siro and the case is already at a council level.
“I can only reiterate this, am I wrong to ask for guarantees if the stadium in the project presented is worth less than half of the total investment? I don’t think so, I’m available to talk about it, everyone knows where I am,” he stated.
It remains to be seen if Milan and Inter will be able to build a new stadium or if they will have to go down a different route. One solution could be to buy another area and build the stadium there, but that is far from ideal.
