Mazzari outlines where Cagliari must be ‘careful’ against Milan because of their ‘deadly’ threat

Cagliari head coach Walter Mazzarri admitted that his side need to be careful in their game against AC Milan tomorrow night because of their strengths going forward.

Milan will make the trip to the island of Sardinia looking to build off their last two wins in the league, during which they triumphed 1-0 in both games against Napoli and most recently Empoli to take advantage of others dropping points and to claim first place outright.

Mazzarri spoke during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game tomorrow night, which is arguably as important for Cagliari as it is for the Rossoneri given that they are looking to stave off relegation.

“These two lost games must not make us lose conviction for what we did in the second half. We will try to transform our ideas on the pitch in the right way. We have done some wrong things. Tomorrow is a new game with the first in the standings,” he said (via

“We will try to do what we did before these two games: put them in difficulty. In football, incidents must also go your way. The important thing is to create opportunities and be careful where we went wrong in the other games.”

On the change of formation: “The formation in these two games has nothing to do with it. We did other things wrong: we missed the ball, we were wrong not to be aggressive. I hope I have passed on to my boys what I would like to do to put Milan in difficulty.”

The Rossoneri gained a reputation for being lethal in attack during the first half of the season but have now switched to a more pragmatic and resilient trend, having kept three clean sheets in a row between the league and the cup, but Mazzari is expecting a Milan side at their free-flowing best.

On Milan: “The detail made the difference, we saw it with Lazio. If we were to be on the ball, play well and attack the way we like it, we need to be careful about this aspect. If you lose the ball, Milan are deadly on the counter-attack. We have to have balance, we have to be good at defending ourselves. We can’t always go for the kill without preemptive cover. We cannot underestimate anything.”
