Paulo Fonseca is not currently at risk of losing his job as AC Milan head coach because the blame for the defeat against Fiorentina is seen more as being with the players, a report claims.
SportMediaset reports how in the aftermath of the fourth defeat in the first nine games of the season (two in Serie A and two in the Champions League) – which is curiously the same record as Julen Lopetegui has with West Ham – there has been talk of pressure on Fonseca.

Instead, there is not a word about the future of the coach coming from Casa Milan because Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic believe he is untouchable for now. It is the players, guilty of an attitude that is not up to par, who must give precise and immediate answers.
There were a lot of incidents during last night’s defeat to Fiorentina for which the squad deserve blame, including the overruling of the penalty hierarchies, the questionable work rate of certain players, Theo Hernandez’s red card and Fikayo Tomori’s mistake before the winner.
Fonseca has not been completely absolved of blame because some of his choices have certainly raised doubts and contribute to distancing the team, or part of the team.
Thus, the club’s leaders are wondering how this obvious self-management is possible and whether there is a real and significant disconnect between Fonseca’s ideas and those of the team.
The careless mistakes and any lack of professionalism will no longer be tolerated, and the coach will be given renewed confidence, at least until the November break which could be a good time for a first assessment and unless there is a sudden shock.

He should have never said during the press conference that the players did not listen to him. That was not smart at all. He told everybody that he has lost the team. It is Fonseca. The players do not respect him. If he does not have the respect of the players, he has to go.
The players are misbehaving because there is no leadership from the top and they don’t respect Fonseca, so, yes, Fonseca is at least equally responsible for this as the players. I mean, it’s unbelievable! The first PK happened in first half so Fonseca had all the time to say to the players during the halftime break: “I’m the boss. Next PK we get and all of them from now on, Pulisic will take them; that’s an order and whoever doesn’t obey will face harsh consequences.”
I mean, a loan player (who hasn’t been able to shoot right) overrules the coach and refuses to give the ball to the coach-designated official PK-taker (who hasn’t missed a single PK in his entire professional career for club and country)??? And then misses??? How on Earth did Fonseca allow that???
You can’t be an effective coach if you don’t know how to command respect from your own players. Our amateur management wanted a yes-man. However when you right a spineless coach who is a yes-man to the management, that’s what you get: the players will feel his weakness and won’t say “yes sir” to him.

Immediately after Theo took the PK against his orders, he should have scolded him and should have underlined during the break that ANY and ALL future PKs were to be taken by Puli (a player who NEVER missed one in his professional career; 100% conversion rate), period, full stop, or else! So that something like this wouldn’t happen in the second half OR in any future game.

A coach is working on tactics at half time, not singling out players for criticism. Guardiola and Sarri have both had a similar situation with penalty takers. There’s only an issue if it isn’t addressed next time. He can bs in post game interviews or he can tell the truth. I prefer telling the truth. The defence has been garbage for 2 seasons so this is nothing new. It’s a player issue, not a coaching issue.

its kind of strange having affection for a glorios team and have to swallow the bitter truth that the past is the only force keeping the connection..most of the time i prefer to read the comments of all you inside here and feel the frustration..as i do not believe anyone here is a fake fan..just everyone is more or less lost by observing this clown show what milan became..

You have a point, Maldinis Heir. We the fans are buying into this devaluation of our Scudetto-winning players; that would be convenient for the management, in terms of selling them and not having the fans revolt too much. Maybe we need to revolt not against our players, but against this management and their decisions or lack thereof. Starting with who they hired to be the head coach, and the incompetent scouting that leads to not filling the holes in the squad, or filling it with new signings who are actually not as good as the ones who won the Scudetto for us.
Statistically speaking, I think we read more posts here advocating for certain players to be sold, than posts protesting against this horrible management and ownership.
The Scudetto-winning team had something that this team doesn’t have: unity. The feeling was one of passion and fight for Milan. Today we see unsatisfied and unmotivated players who misbehave out of the lack of effective leadership. When you don’t have leaders who encourage the other players to commit to the common project (that is, winning trophies), then you get all these manifestations of individuality (including the ego trips). There is no vacuum in nature. When you have a void, something will fill it, and often, something worse than what should be there.
It’s a sad, sad, situation. What have they done to our Milan?
