Mediaset: Monaco sign new midfielder with Milan poised to raise Fofana bid

By Euan Burns -

AS Monaco have signed a new midfielder who could be viewed as a replacement for Youssouf Fofana who is keen on moving to AC Milan as soon as possible.

According to Sport Mediaset (via Milan News), the fact that Monaco have pushed ahead and signed Lamine Camara from fellow French side FC Metz shows that they are expecting to lose Fofana this summer and could eventually soften on their position.

Monaco have been asking for €35m for the French international but given he has just one year to run on his contract, and no interest in extending, Milan think he can be signed for less.

The Rossoneri are expected to submit a new offer for Fofana next week of €20m, as well as giving Monaco 10% of any future sale.

Considering Fofana will be leaving Monaco for less than his market value due to having one year left on his contract, and that he is 25 years old, Milan could well end up selling him for more than €20m in the future if he performs well.

Fonseca is on board with the idea of signing Fofana and the player has a contract agreement in place with the Rossoneri that would see him earn €3m per season.

  1. Well that’s pretty important if that’s an actual planned replacement, shows they’re resigned to sell even if they may wait for higher offers. It being Monaco’s scouting team, he’s probably just as good too!

  2. The mindset of buying a player to sell for profit shouldn’t be Milan’s norm. We should more often than not target players to strengthen the team and to win

    1. I’m pretty sure we are looking to strengthen the team. And it’s guaranteed we’d make a substantial profit seeing as he’s only 20mil – all clubs think about stuff like this, it’s not exactly exclusive to Milan…

    2. With the current rule…. yes, it should be the norm. The more you sell, the more you can pay. Otherwise contracts are just a negative asset. Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea….. some of the biggest spenders are also the biggest sellers and they buy plenty of players who never see their first teams before providing a profit.

Morally it’s very questionable but welcome to modern football.

    1. Either they want to sell him to another bidder or let him rot in bench. Price tagging player more than his reasonable price will certainly unsettle the player
