Mediaset: Signing of 20-year-old defender ‘most likely’ for Milan with contacts underway

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could well be active in the January transfer window, a journalist has claimed, with talks underway regarding the signing of a defender.

According to what Claudio Raimondi of SportMediaset has told MilanNews, the approach to the January window for Milan will be dependent on what they think they can achieve.

If after what transpires between now and 23 December leaves Milan thinking they can seriously win the Scudetto, then an investment will be made in the defensive department.

That is because Leo Duarte has never provided consistency, Mateo Musacchio will not renew his and is destined to leave Milan next summer and Alessio Romagnoli appears to be delicate from a physical point of view.

Raimondi believes that ‘the most likely’ signing is Matteo Lovato and that dialogue with Hellas Verona is well underway. He does not believe that Hellas will accept €15million but if Milan are in a position to aim for the title, an effort from the ownership could come.

The alternative – if there was an opportunity – would be another graft in midfield to allow Bennacer and Kessie space to breathe.
