Messaggero: Lazio hoping to take advantage of contract impasse and sign Milan defender

By Oliver Fisher -

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is pondering a move for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli who could leave this summer, a report claims.

Romagnoli’s contract will expire in 2022 and Milan are thus facing an important decision: either renew the contract or sell their captain. The latter remains a possible outcome, sparking some rumours, and the 26-year-old doesn’t exactly lack suitors either with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona repeatedly linked.

According to newspaper Il Messaggero (via The Laziale) though, Romagnoli is actually a target for Lazio, who are his boyhood club despite the fact he played for Roma when he was young. The Capitoline club are trying to insert themselves into the running and it is a situation that will need to be monitored in the coming days.

Romagnoli made 22 Serie A appearances last season under coach Stefano Pioli for a total of 1907 minutes, helping to keep seven clean sheets, but lost his spot in the line-up to Fikayo Tomori from January onwards.

  1. No No We need to keep him! We are running out of Italian players and Romagnoli is a leader in the team.

Maybe change formation to fit Romagnoli in?

    1. Would you want to force him into the squad if he wasn’t italian? Bit nonsensical to make a lineup decision based on player’s nationality.

      1. No its not nonsensical, Milan is an Italian Club, it is important that the club stay true to its roots – I have no problem with foreign players but the there has to be a balance between domestic players and foreign players – otherwise you risk loosing the cultural connection with the city you represent – look at Arsenal and Man City – they dont feel like London and Manchester clubs – this could erode fans bases over time. In Milan we dont have many italians left.

      2. While I have no issues regarding non Italian players in Milan team, we should take into account that Romagnoli fits into homegrown quota for UCL. Should we sell him, we are technically one precious homegrown player short.
