AC Milan seem inclined to sign Junior Messias permanently as he has surpassed expectations, but there is something that must be resolved first.
As we have learned through our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Messias is giving Milan more than what was expected of him at the start of the season, having arrived on deadline day in the summer to some scepticism given that the club were linked with some bigger names.
The Milan fans have always been supportive towards the Brazilian from his very first game, which came after a tough period where he couldn’t get to match fitness. His stay permanently is now increasingly likely, but the management are making some considerations.
That night in Madrid
It can be said that true love blossomed in the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. The Crotone winger entered the second half and won the game with a header, something that temporarily boosted hopes of qualification for the knockout stages.
Pioli’s statements at the end of that game psychologically relaunched Messias, to the point of making him the starter on several occasions, and he seems to have earned the spot from Alexis Saelemaekers over the past couple of months.
His future linked to Castillejo
Crotone would not oppose a sale in any way and they have already given the go-ahead to both the player and Milan. The 30-year-old is having a great time with the Rossoneri and is well liked by the dressing room.
However, some considerations on the squad remain to be made. Samu Castillejo is destined to leave, freeing the place on the right. Saelemaekers, on the other hand, will probably remain. Considering Adli’s return, there is more of a question of what might limit the arrival of another player in that area of the pitch from a numerical more than an economic point of view.
The Rossoneri must reflect whether they want to give Pioli a gift on the market, signing a top player who can alternate with Brahim Diaz and Saelemaekers, or essentially keep the squad as it is.
