GdS: First piece of Milan’s 2023 puzzle expected to be crucial renewal

The AC Milan management are feeling confident that they will convince Ismael Bennacer to extend his contract with the club, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport speaks of a ‘puzzle’ coming up in 2023 that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara must resolve, with their mission being to complete the squad to the best of their ability. New signings are included in that, but renewals take up a big chunk of this puzzle.

The Rafael Leao situation has been well documented in the media but the contract of Bennacer runs out in June 2024 just as the winger’s does, meaning the extension of the Algerian’s deal has become increasingly important especially given how vital he is tactically to Pioli.

In fact, Pioli actually declared at the beginning of the season that he expected big things from Bennacer: “If Tonali and Leao exploded last year, this time I expect that step from Isma.”

The former Empoli star – who recently changed his agent to Enzo Raiola – is close to reaching an agreement over a new deal with Milan on the basis of €4m net per season which will triple his current salary.
