TMW: Milan accelerate for Zaniolo and hope to close within 48 hours

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are accelerating their attempts to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma and hope to close the deal within the next 48 hours, a report claims.

According to TMW, any last doubts that existed within the walls of Casa Milan have been dispelled during the day and that is why the Rossoneri management are accelerating their pursuit of the 23-year-old forward.

Zaniolo is ‘getting closer and closer’ to joining Milan and the feeling is that the deal can be closed within the next 48 hours or at the latest on Monday, therefore without reaching the last day of the transfer market.

Milan are moving fast and are studying their strategy, hoping to close things in a short space of time to give a boost to their squad and the attacking department in particular. In order to get the final green light, the Rossoneri could insert an obligation to buy in their offer to Roma.

  1. Well, that’s outstanding.
Our midfield and defense are horrendously bad this season, but Milan is about to solve that problem by bringing in a forward .
This is like in the summer.
We needed a CB, Maldini wanted Botman. He didn’t get Botman for whatever reason, too expensive or what not, and instead of going and signing some other CB, he went and spent almost all our transfers funds on a forward in CDK. Was Botman the only CB out there?
And now he is doing the same thing. We desperately need a defensive midfielder and a CB, but instead, he is about to sign a forward. He would help our defensive problems tremendously by losing the ball 9 out of every 10 times.

    1. It’s Gazidis, who blocked Botman’s arrival.. There are enough Centre Backs in Milan, I don’t think, we need a new Centre Back.. Pioli, should play Gabbia and Thiaw often! Most importantly; he should bench Tatarasanu, and give Vasquez a chance..

      1. We have plenty of players that can play CB but are they actually good enough.
Thiaw came from the 2nd Bundesliga, and Gabbia is just a back up at best. Milan needed and still needs a starter at CB

        1. Milan biggest need in the attacking phase is actually a creative midfielder that can pass the ball. If you put someone like Luis Alberto in between Leao and Messias and behind Giroud things will get much easier for all 3 players.
Our attacking strategy right now is give the ball to Leao or Messias when he plays and hopefully they’ll do something on their own. If you bring Zaniolo you are basically playing the same way with just a different player who is also a loose cannon who might leave you with a man down at any moment.
The most glaring need at this moment is a midfielder that can actually pass the ball. Tonali, Bennacer, Diaz ain’t it.
There was a moment during Lazio game when Diaz had a ton of spare and had Dest streaking down the left side unmarked , Brahim pass was so weak that dest had to stop and run towards the ball.
We need a n10 more than a RW

          1. “Milan biggest need in the attacking phase is actually a creative midfielder that can pass the ball. ”

That’s what I’ve been repeating ever since Pirlo left. There creativity and accurate/inventive passes have been missing for over a decade now. And it’s now more relevant than ever.

    2. ??? Our attack has been horrible for two seasons now so why wouldn’t we need an attacker? The defence have just been in horrible form but last year we said we had the best defence in Italy. So yes we definitely need a forward. We need cover in all departments but attack is much needed. We depended on leao all year and everyone else is anonymous. We get 30 shots a game and score one goal. It’s a big peoblem

    3. RW is also a glaring hole, and arguably finding a capable RW will provide much more balance to the team than signing a midfielder. Even if Zanio starts half the games that’s still more value than Milan would get from Saelemaekers and Messias combined. Also do you think with Zaniolo Pioli will have the personal to switch to a 4-3-3? I mean we all know Pioli would rather lose his job than try something new but maybe a player like Zaniolo could change his mind.

  2. A box to box midfielder is needed more thank anything. Unless pioli throws pobega/krunic as dm and play tonaly in a bit more advanced position. Midfield is and has been the biggest issue since kessie left. I dont even know what to say about tata and pur goalkeeping situation. A scarecrow in the goal would be a better addition at this point.

  3. All you have to do is look at Botman this season to raise he’d have been a great addition. I think he preferred is but we didn’t have the money.

I’m a firm believer that players don’t get bad overnight, Kalulu and Tomori are still excellent. Adding a top CB like Botman would allow us to drop one or move Kalulu out to RB

I think we do need to address the attack more than defence. We know that our back 5 when fit and firing is very good. We literally have nothing beyond Leao up front..if we could get Aouar and Zaniolo in Jan it gives me a bit of hope

  4. With Tomori’s absence, I think it’s about time to try a 3-5-2
    [Thiaw, Kjaer, Kalulu;
    Bennacer, Krunic/Pobega,
    Calabria/Saelemakers, Tonali, Saelemakers/Rebic/Adli;
    Leao, Giroud

    1. Theo? Arguably our best player bro. I’m a firm believer in the fact that Rafael Leao without Theo Hernandez is nothing. Defenders respect theo’s pace and fear Leao in space when they’re both on. Pick your poison situation. Any formation excluding Theo is worse than our current options. Look no further than yesterday’s fiasco for proof..

  5. They need a good GK who can be a good sub to Maignan, and not buy someone like Vasquez and wait for him to be ready. We don’t have that luxury, cant continue to use Tatarusanu as a GK, that is insane an suicidal, the guy is a puppet. Meanwhile Napoli swaped Sirigu for Gollini.

    1. Maybe they’ve done the math that if they have 10 injury prone forwards there should always still be 3 or 4 available each week? 😀

  6. I agree with those saying the defence isn’t the issue. It’s the attacking midfielder role and right wing. Maignan is the main reason the defence is playing like a bunch of scared little girls. Once he’s back you’ll see the difference. As for Zaniolo I’m not a fan but hope he proves me wrong.

  7. Another desperately gambling choice. At least we will have all tall attacking dept. Leao 6’2.5, CDK 6,4, Zaniolo 6,3, Giroud-Zlatan 6’4-6’5

  8. What we need most at the moment is a change in tactics. A 3 man midfield. A 4-3-3 would eliminate the need for a pure number 10 and a pure number 9. Rebic can play instead of giroud.

  9. Put tatarusanu on the bench for one or 2 match, that guy has no reflex at all, let’s give the other goalkeepers a chance. As long as Tata is I that post hmm I fear for Milan

  10. Tatarusanu is horrible, we need q 2nd choice goalkeeper it’s like Pioli doesn’t see that he can try our 3rd goalkeeper next game

  11. We really need some balance on the RW and if he can stay fit then great.
Our game this season has become predictable and easily defended…
Send Diaz home and play CDK.. he needs to get up to speed
