Milan avoid Spurs and PSV but could face Besiktas, Basel if they beat Bodo/Glimt – the pre-draw

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have managed to avoid the possibility of drawing Tottenham in the Europa League Play-Off round, it has been confirmed.

The Rossoneri overcame Irish league leaders Shamrock Rovers in the second qualifying round on Thursday night in Dublin thanks to goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hakan Calhanoglu in a 2-0 win.

That sets up a tie at San Siro on September 24 against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the third qualifying round, with the winner of that game knowing they are just one victory away from reaching the group stages and pocketing €15m.

After yesterday’s matches, the pre-draw for the Europa League Play-Off round took place on Friday morning. Here are the possible opponents for Milan, should they win next Thursday…

– Basel (Switzerland) or Anorthosis (Cyprus)
– Viktoria Plzeň (Czech Republic) or SønderjyskE (Denmark)
– Beşiktaş (Turkey) or Rio Ave (Portugal)

The Rossoneri, therefore, have avoided much more high-profile clubs such as Tottenham, Sporting Lisbon, PSV Eindhoven and Wolfsburg. The draw will take place at 2pm in Nyon.
