Journalist claims Milan want centre-back Benfica have already rejected €15m bid for

AC Milan are interested in signing Benfica centre-back Morato but he will not be a cheap acquisition, according to a journalist from Brazil.

It is no secret that Milan are in the market for a central defender having seen Alessio Romagnoli leave on a free transfer and with Simon Kjaer making his recovery from an eight month injury absence, plus rumours about Matteo Gabbia going out on loan.

According to Andre Hernan, Milan are interested in Benfica’s 21-year-old central defender Morato, who they signed from São Paulo in Brazil.

Benfica have already rejected a €15m bid from Stade Rennais in Ligue 1 which shows that they are looking for a higher price, which is understandable given the Brazilian took the position of Jan Vertonghen in the starting XI at Benfica thanks to his growth.

Morato was 18 when he moved from the youth ranks of São Paulo to Benfica back in September 2019. He signed a deal there until 2024 and the transfer fee was €6m, with the Brazilian club retaining a 15% resale clause (via Wiki).
