MN: Kjaer central to Milan’s plans but Maldini wants to close Botman deal with terms agreed

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have decided to make an investment on a new centre-back in the summer window Sven Botman of Lille currently the most likely to arrive, a report claims.

According to MilanNews, a young central defender could arrive between now and the end of the January transfer window with Malick Thiaw of Schalke and Maxime Esteve of Montpellier the two profiles who are currently top of the list, but another player in the same position should arrive in the summer.

Simon Kjaer will return from injury and should be back for the start of the 2022-23 season. He obviously remains a key part of Milan’s project moving forward but Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are determined to sign a young but strong centre-back who can be Fikayo Tomori’s long-term partner moving forward.

Sven Botman and Gleison Bremer are the two names identified, but the former is preferred. There is an agreement in principle with the Dutchman over a contract and he will stay until the end of the season to help Lille achieve their objectives while the Rossoneri will work in the next few days and weeks to agree a deal with the Ligue 1 side, possibly at around €25-30m.

  1. Botman will not join Milan. In the end Milan will try to lower the price so many times that Lille gets annoyed and sells him elsewhere.
