Reports: Milan beat Roma and Atalanta to signing of Ireland U17 captain

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are on the verge of signing Cathal Heffernan from Cork City after a number of trials with different clubs around Italy and Europe, a report claims.

According to The Sun in Ireland, the Irish 17 captain is on his way to Milan and is in fact in talks with the Rossoneri over joining, having previously had trials at Atalanta and Roma and more recently with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 17-year-old made his League of Ireland debut against Galway United in October and is ‘highly rated’ by the club, but he seems set to follow the path that other Irish teenagers have being taking recently.

If he were to complete the move to Milan, he would become the third in the past six months to make the move to Italy after his Irish U17 team-mate Kevin Zefi joined Inter from Shamrock Rovers while 18-year-old James Abankwah moved from St Patrick’s Athletic to Udinese.

Calciomercato.com reports that Heffernan will join the youth sector, having recently trained with Atalanta and Roma, but he chose the Rossoneri.

  1. We are so good at this, then sell them due to impatience and lack of vision from all of the management…. Blind people!! Letting Kerkez go will be ur biggest mistake! No buyback clause included! So senseless!! Very soon they will sell Colombo, Pobega and Gabbia! Rubbish!!

    1. Paolo Maldini is not running the show! Gazidis is the one in charge. Gazidis is only interested in the profits just as he did with Arsenal. That’s what Elliot, the owners of the club want.

I don’t know what went down with Kerkez. I think he came because he expected to move quickly into the team and not stay with primavera. Unfortunately, Milan signed Ballo-Toure. Kerkez obviously decided he not interested in being a backup to the backup.

Leaving without a buyback clause reeks of the Locatelli situation. The guy is angry and just wants to put Milan totally behind him. It’s like slamming the door after you against a return in the future..

  2. Hahah what joke we are…we not club like Dortmund or some other where we give chance to young stars to grow ….we are sign tons of potential talents but let them go before they unleash their potential…management need to decide what path they wanna take….when we buy them we need to give them chance to hit their potential….we are literally becoming another arsenal….
