Moretto: Milan will ‘certainly make an attempt’ to sign Japan international if Maignan leaves

AC Milan will make an attempt to sign Zion Suzuki from Parma if and when the sale of Mike Maignan goes through, a report claims.

The noise about Maignan’s possible sale to Chelsea is growing louder each day. It is believed that the Frenchman is unhappy about having reached a verbal agreement over a renewal with Milan and then things going quiet, so he is trying to force an exit.

There replacements linked so far above all have been Vanja Milinkovic-Savic of Torino and Mile Svilar of Roma. However, it is obvious that Igli Tare will scan the market for the best profile and the best deal, so other names like Suzuki are very much still in the frame.

Suzuki to replace Maignan?

Matteo Moretto – together with Fabrizio Romano – spoke on YouTube about Milan’s plans for the goalkeeper role in the event that Maignan were to be sold to Chelsea. His statements were relayed by MilanNews.

“Milan has a long list for the goalkeeper. The simplest solution, the one that Tare has already secured, is that of Milinkovic-Savic: very good relations with the agent and there is a clause for the player, they can also not negotiate with Torino. It is the simplest and fastest solution, but it is not the only one.

“I would add that Milan want to make an attempt for Suzuki from Parma , who is considered the right goalkeeper to replace Maignan due to his characteristics. Milan will certainly make an attempt, but it won’t be easy with Parma.

“Suzuki wants to play regularly in view of the World Cup, which is why the Napoli option is more difficult than Milan, where he would be a starter. If the Maignan situation were to take off, then Suzuki is a name to follow.”

  1. If you use DataMb to compare Maignan with the goalkeepers mentioned in here, Savic, Svilar, Suzuki, Mike Maignan is the worst when it comes to shot stopping, and it isn’t even close.
But some people think that Milan will downgrade at the Goalkeeper position if they sell Maignan.
Just swap him for Djordje Petrovic and be done with it.

    1. You’re right. think we romanticized Mike because of the associated betrayal with Gigio’s departure. Mike is a very good goalkeeper and can be world class on his day. But he is also in jury prone, and mistake prone in certain situations.

      1. As we just saw in the nations semis, the guy has a tendency to choke at random. He’s excellent when he’s on his game, but 10 times a season he almost seems to unplug his brain

  2. It’s not just about the downgrade at goalkeeper or overhyping Maignan—most Milan fans are frustrated with how poorly Furlani and the rest of the Stooges have handled his contract situation (Tonali, Rejnders, Theo idem). It feels amateurish, and to make things worse, they’re now selling him for a price that’s far below his actual value. Fans aren’t just upset about losing a top goalkeeper, a position in my opinion that is easily replaceable. My fear is that at this rate, they will loose 3/4 of the team.

  3. If they sign him without being racist or any kind of it, it will cause he has marketing in Japan nothing more. This mediocre Owners think just about money nothing else, they wanna just get theyr investors happy. We are at the right moment the most unluckiest Club in the world with the saddest downfall from the Top 10 Clubs in the world. The fans, the fans need to f…. boycot everything, Stadium and Merch even the F… likes on the official site of Ac Milan till they need to sell the club.

    1. 100% right. Whether we like it or not, Milan needs to have Italian core to be back at the top.

It is ridiculous that last season there was barely single Italian in the squad. They don’t even speak same language, don’t communicate, and expect to win anything? I hope this will finally change. Btw I’m not even Italian but I wish Milan would be Italian.

    2. The owners only think about money, which is why they can’t stop spending? Also you do realise that new owners are no guarantee that things will improve, right?

  4. Honestly, Suzuki might not be a bad idea.

I understand that the management under Ibrahimović, Furlani, and Moncada hasn’t been the best. But consider this: Reijnders just had his contract renewed, even though it wasn’t set to expire until 2028. There are also plans in place to renew Pulisic’s contract. Meanwhile, the renewals for Theo Hernández and Mike Maignan — whose contracts expire in just over a year have been put on hold.

Reijnders and Pulisic have worked incredibly hard and proven their value on the pitch, earning those pay raises and contract extensions, just like Leão did a few years ago when he became the team’s highest-paid player.

On the other hand, Maignan and Theo reportedly believe they deserve double or even triple their current wages before agreeing to an extension, simply because they’re starters for the French national team. It’s almost as if they expect Milan to feel lucky just to have them.

If that’s the mindset, maybe they need to check their egos and ask themselves if Milan is really the problem, or if the problem lies within themselves.

  5. I’m unsure about this guy, maybe it’s just my luck but whenever I watched him play, he’s always making some sort of mistakes and just shaky in general. I always thought that he has no business playing as GK lmao.

My first choice would be Svillar, but fast-tracking Torriani is fine with me as well.

  6. Pay Slavic’s release clause and play him for a few years while we develop our young goalie.

  7. He will fit great in the american woke Milan lol. It seems like instead of aiming for good players we always aim for some diversity program.

  8. Suzuki is one of best gks in Calcio.
    United and Napoli wants him.
I am not shure that Milan have money for him.
    His price is about 30milion.
