Pellegatti: Milan tried for €70m-rated Chelsea loan star Broja and have not yet given up

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were interested in Chelsea loanee Armando Broja but the situation has now become complicated due to his valuation.

Broja is on a season-long loan at Southampton from Chelsea and the 19-year-old is having a fantastic season so far with 9 goals in 32 appearances so far for the Saints. Ralph Hasenhuttl now considers him a regular and he can play either up front or out wide.

After reaching 20 academy goals for the season with a strike against Milwall at Stamford Bridge in the FA Youth Cup, Broja was given his full Chelsea debut in a home Premier League game against Everton in March 2020, replacing the now-Milan striker Olivier Giroud.

It was then deemed best for him to go out on loan, and the well-known Rossoneri journalist Carlo Pellegatti has revealed an interesting indiscretion on his YouTube channel concerning the Albanian.

“Before the tragic events between Russia and Ukraine that prompted the British government to sanction Abramovich, AC Milan monitored the situation. The hypothesis was that of a loan,” he said (via MilanNews).

“In Albania they are very passionate about Italian football. For Broja, the Milan hypothesis would have been important. They tell me that the player is valued at 70 million euros. I do not rule out that Milan could have loaned him.

“To date, however, Milan are very cautious on the subject: the situation has become complicated. The Rossoneri management cannot wait for Chelsea’s corporate evolution: if a new ownership and new managers arrive, Milan could return to Broja. Unless they close first with Origi who, to date, is the number one candidate. With sustainable figures, Milan can think about it.”
