Opta: Milan and Chelsea set Champions League cards record for this season

The match between AC Milan and Chelsea set a record for the most cards in the first half of a Champions League match this season, a report claims.

As was highlighted by Opta (via Milan News), there was six cards handed out by Daniel Siebert in the first half of the match against Chelsea on Tuesday night.

That is more than any other Champions League match this season which is largely why Milan fans are so angry about the refereeing display. The headline card was the red for Fikayo Tomori in the 18th minute.

That was a highly controversial call as Tomori did not seem to have made enough contact on Mason Mount for it to be a penalty.

That red card and the penalty being converted by Jorginho meant that the contest was effectively over before it had started. Many other yellow cards were handed out for minor offences.
