Edouard Mendy has turned down the offer of a new deal from Chelsea and AC Milan have been mentioned as being among the most interested clubs.
The Sun in England report that Mendy wants to earn the same as his team-mate Kepa Arrizabalaga who currently gets £200k-a-week (€237k) while the 30-year-old Mendy earns around £100,000. The report also mentions that the Blues have even withdrawn their initial offer of a long-term deal and there is now a stand-off.
“Edouard is back at Chelsea and he is ready to play. But there is a feeling that the contract situation is just going nowhere. Edouard has won some huge trophies for Chelsea — but there is a sense that he is not being shown enough respect by the club over a new deal,” a source told them.
The Senegal international still has two and a half years left on his deal but Milan are mentioned as monitoring his situation as well as Ligue 1 sides OGC Nice and AS Monaco.
Milan already have Mike Maignan as their established starting goalkeeper and he is one of the best in the world in his position, but he has struggled with injuries and there have been links with a move to sign a new back-up given Ciprian Tatarusanu and Antonio Mirante are out of contract next June.
Unless Mike’s injury really does seem career ending then we can’t sing another first keeper. We just need a very capable backup and we’ll be good. Maignan is amazing when he’s fit.
And what makes you think Mendy will accept to be a reserve goalie?
What kind of news is this. We can’t even seal the renewals of Bennacer for 4.5m and Leao as our top earner and we want to sign a second keeper who already earns upwards of 6m a year. Good grief

He’s rubbish with his feet. We need a keeper with similar skills like Mike. A sweeper keeper with good passing skills allows us to defend higher up.
