Tuttosport: Milan closing in on signing with Atalanta ‘resigned’ – three-year deal ready

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will make some changes to the goalkeeping department during the next summer transfer window with Mike Maignan expected to have a new deputy.

According to Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan), Milan have chosen Marco Sportiello as the man to replace Ciprian Tatarusanu and become the new back-up to Maignan, given that the Romanian’s contract will expire at the end of the season.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been on the search for a new goalkeeper recently and initially probed Pietro Terracciano of Fiorentina, but he ended up renewing his deal and so they turned to Sportiello of Atalanta.

The Rossoneri have been in contact for some time with Giuseppe Riso, the goalkeeper’s agent, with whom they have excellent relations. Stefano Pioli also coached Sportiello at Fiorentina in the 2017-18 season, with the player seemingly open to reuniting with him and Atalanta are therefore ‘resigned’ to losing him.

Sportiello will leave La Dea on a free transfer and will go to Milan, with whom he will sign a three-year contract, therefore expiring on 30 June 2026. He will be the first Italian in the role of deputy goalkeeper for Milan team for five seasons.
