Milan must dispel April taboo against Torino to get Scudetto push back on track

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will face off against Torino in the month of April again on Sunday night, and there are some interesting precedents involving games between the two sides.

As our colleagues at SempreMilan.it recall, a 1-1 draw in April 2018 and a 2-0 defeat in April 2019 are the last matches in the fourth month of the year between Torino and Milan. The draw had goals from Bonaventura and De Silvestri and in the end the Rossoneri still managed to qualify for the Europa League the following season.

The following year resulted in defeat due to Belotti’s penalty and Berenguer’s goal and it was that result kept Milan out of the Champions League given they missed out by just one point.

April is not a month in which Milan have had great luck, but Torino-Milan on Sunday gives a chance to exercise some demons and to get revenge on the Granata. Back in April 1979, Liedholm’s Milan won 3-0 and that was a victory which showed the team that a 10th Scudetto was very close. This weekend, Pioli hopes for another vital victory.
