AC Milan are tempted by a move to sign Mahmoud Dahoud on a free transfer as he will say goodbye to Borussia Dortmund after six years there.
Sport1 recall how Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl announced on Monday to Bild that Dahoud’s spell with the club – lasting for over half a decade – would be coming to an end once the season is done.
“I had a very open and honest conversation with Mo last week not be extended. Mo has been with us for six years now, he’s a very good footballer and I really have a very high opinion of him on a sporting and personal level. Nevertheless, we decided to take this step,” he said.
After the 1-0 win against Chelsea last week, the 27-year-old midfielder and his agent met in Kehl’s office in Dortmund where they came to the mutual conclusion that it is the right move for Dahoud to look for a new challenge.
He arrived from Borussia Mönchengladbach for a fee of around €12m and was regarded as a huge talent at the time given he was then 21. He played 137 competitive games for BVB, scoring five goals and adding 16 assists.
In the decisive meeting on Thursday with Kehl, Dahoud was promised playing time by Dortmund so that he could put himself in the shop window, with Milan, Napoli, Sevilla and Leicester City all having already expressed their interest.
Dahoud himself commented on his exit and what comes next in his career as part of the article.
“I am really looking forward to a new challenge. I definitely want to play at a high level in one of the top leagues. My team takes care of that. I am a football player This is my focus. Everything that comes in summer comes in summer,” he said.
