Tuttosport: Milan eye signing of Atalanta veteran to replace outgoing goalkeeper

By Oliver Fisher -

The Milan management are preparing for some changes in the goalkeeping department ahead of the 2023-23 season, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) has a section titled: ‘Hunt for the deputy to Maignan: the future is Sportiello on a free transfer’.

The paper explains that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will search for a second goalkeeper in the next summer transfer window as Ciprian Tatarusanu’s contract is set to expire and currently it seems he will not be renewed.

Among the options being considered to replace him is Marco Sportiello of Atalanta, whose contract also expires at the end of the current campaign meaning he would be available on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old is appreciated by the Rossoneri management, and he has made six Serie A starts for La Dea this season, having been with the Bergamo club for nine years.

    1. Nor will they behind Maignan, unless he is injured and would you trust a young, inexperienced goalkeeper in that situation? Sportiello would be a great choice.

      1. Agreed. They should be out on loan getting starts at the appropriate level. Sportiello is a good Gk, will be a great backup and will count towards the homegrown requirement in Europe.

    2. Because a GK is a position that needs experience and mentality the most.

It’s not Football manager where you can get by no matter how young if you have good technical ability. There’s a reason GKs could play at top level until theyre older than most players at other positions.
