Journalist believes Milan face decision regarding winger they ‘cannot rely on’

By Oliver Fisher -

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara could soon be forced to make a decision on the future of Junior Messias as he is not offering the right guarantees at the moment, a journalist has claimed.

Messias was not able to partake in either of the friendlies against Arsenal and Liverpool in the Dubai Super Cup last week, leading to questions about his physical condition and why he has had another period of absence.

Franco Ordine has written in his latest column for MilanNews that Messias has ‘gone off the radar’ but ‘keeps going in and out of the infirmary’ which means that Stefano Pioli ‘cannot rely on him’.

This is where the directors might soon need to make a call on Messias and what he can offer moving forward, given that he is in his 30s now and has amassed just 15 appearances this season.

If the Brazilian were deemed surplus to requirements it could well lead to a ‘radical change’ ahead of next season.

  1. We had the opportunity to sign Zaccagni last season who is much younger and held out the entire off-season waiting for us and is also very versatile which we needed in our attack. Then we passed on him and went with the 30 year old Messias who is decent and works hard for what it’s worth, but he is just average at best and it was always the wrong decision.

  2. This guy’s story is very beautiful, a story of persistence and overcoming difficulties, but the fact is that he is just a fairly good player, we need (and deserve) better.

  3. Messias can be useful for 2 more years. If management sealed Leao’s new contract, we need only one reinforcement in the attack.

  4. This journalist talked as if he heard the words “i cannot rely on Messias” from Pioli mouth.

For a back up Messias is pretty good. Last season he scored 6 goals and 3 assist and this season he already scored 3 goals and 1 assist. And his salary only 1 million euro /year which isn’t expensives.

The sad thing is some Milan fans never acknowledge Messias contributions, calling him useless and sh*t but they want him to score like 100 goals per season as if he’s in the same league as Neymar or Mbappe lol.

Day by day, i feel disgusted with some Milan fans especially the glory hunter ones who only thinks Milan must spend big money and buy expensives players 🙁

    1. Yep. For the money Milan has spent on Messias, he has actually performed pretty decently. And if you look at his finishing percentage (goals per chances) he’s one of the best in the squad.
