AC Milan will give a big number to Pietro Terracciano after he has signed a two year deal with the club this evening.

By all accounts, the move for Terracciano is just waiting to be announced. The goalkeeper arrived at Casa Milan on Wednesday evening to complete the formalities of his deal, and despite Marco Sportiello’s future yet to be completed, the deal can go through shortly.

In fact, Peppe Di Stefano told Sky Sport (via MilanNews) that he has signed a deal to become the Rossoneri’s new second-choice goalkeeper, and will be available for Massimiliano Allegri as early as tomorrow for training.

Return to the shirt

Of course, the next question to answer regards his number. As a goalkeeper, the options, traditionally, are quite limited. We know that he is not going to be given the No.9, for example.

Di Stefano actually states that he will be given the number 1 shirt, though, which is a bit of a shock, considering that is normally the primary goalkeeper number. In fact, the shirt number has not been worn since 2022/23 when Ciprian Tatarusanu wore it.

The shirt was passed around quite heavily in the 2000s, though the most iconic to wear the number would have to be Dida.

  1. The most normal number for a goalkeeper and this site is feeding the trolls.

What was the point with that headline? 😅

    1. Vero I think it was more a reference to the 00s onwards but absolutely yes, I agree Rossi is also my number 1 AC Milan goalkeeper since I became an AC Milan fan. He will always have a special place in my heart.

        1. That’s a fair choice as well Rhea but as I only became a Milan fan in 89 I still have a greater fondness for Rossi and he also was the nr. 1 for a longer extension of time. Well before I was born there was also Buffon who was the keeper of the club in the 50ies. Abbiati also deserves a mention as he is the goalkeeper who has played the most matches for the club to my recollection.

          1. Yes bro.. Giovanni Galli 2 times champion league winner. Heheh.. but abbiati it’s my 2nd choice. He should be Italy no. 1 GK but at that time, Italy have lots of great GK like marchegiani, Buffon, toldo, bucci, pagliuca + Peruzzi. Milan ? Already have abbiati + Dida.

  2. Okay, so Pietro Terracciano is signed to be 2nd choice. What happens to Sportiello? Is this a hint that MM16 may be sold?

  3. The lack of knowledge and/or research is hilarious. It’s not like he was “granted” it. He gets to choose from all available #s.

Technically, all senior players are legally allowed to choose their own numbers in Serie A. And Milan cant say no. Only if another player has seniority or the # is retired. For example, if Bennacer wanted to stay, he could demand his #4 back from Ricci and he’d get it.

How do you think J. De Guzman was #1 for Chievo. Central midfielder as #1. His choice, no one elses.

Sure Milan could have offered Terra #1 but he could have said no I want 73. Like Sportiello did.
