MN: Milan likely to seize only ‘good opportunities’ in the winter transfer window

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management are defining their strategy in view of the winter transfer window and it is not yet known if they will be active on the hunt for reinforcements.

Pietro Mazzara writes in his column for MilanNews that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara never like to intervene during the January mercato with big signings. Last season, the decision not to sign anyone aside from Marko Lazetic paid off and went hand in hand with the reduction in injuries, which gave Pioli a team full of charge for the Scudetto battle.

This time around we look ahead to the returns of Mike Maignan, Alexis Saelemaekers and Davide Calabria, who will all be available for the Dubai tour and are three important additions both numerically and qualitatively.

It is from the most recent summer market that Pioli expects to see some improvements, and Malick Thiaw has started to show his qualities, Aster Vranckx was decisive against Fiorentina while the feeling is the break will benefit Divock Origi too.

They could end up being like new signings to use the familiar cliche, but then we will ‘have to see if there will be good opportunities and in which roles’ when it comes to further additions when the window reopens.

  1. First priority should be to dump Pobega sell him for as much as Milan can get. Then sign a athletic physical midfield who actually plays football. Milan would be much stronger with 3 starting level midfielders available for the pivot. Then RW. Worry about everything else in the summer. And upgrade at those two spots would go a long way to insure top 4
