Milan’s home form continues to be a cause for concern in Scudetto push – the figures

By Oliver Fisher -

There is a somewhat worrying statistic that continues to haunt Milan’s battle to win the Scudetto, and it is related to their form at home.

Generally, home advantage should have a positive impact on the host team’s performance, but unfortunately this is not the case for Stefano Pioli’s team. The Rossoneri have an average of 1.94 points per game at San Siro, and that is a low number when looking at other title candidates.

Inter for example have an average of 2.20 points per game at San Siro while the Rossoneri continue to drop points against lower-ranking sides. Even Fiorentina and Lazio have more points on the board at home from one less game played.

Last season Milan managed just 30 points in 19 home games at an average of 1.58 points per game, which ended up ultimately being part of their undoing in the title race as the pace dropped at the end of the season. More conviction is needed now, with 21 points to play for.

  1. Forget this home form myth. It’s only a sign that the coach can’t handle pressure. Rather than deal with it, he allows the same pressure to get to the players.
