MN: Milan in talks with agent of Atalanta veteran amid two expiring contracts

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan appear to be closing in on securing their first signing ahead of the summer transfer window and it would be for the goalkeeping department, a report claims.

The contracts of both Ciprian Tătărușanu and Antonio Mirante are set to expire in June 2023 which means that as things stand Stefano Pioli would find himself with only Mike Maignan available, so Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara there will therefore need to sign at least a new deputy to the Frenchman.

MilanNews echo reports from other sources in claiming that Marco Sportiello is the profile they have chosen. He has been with Atalanta since he joined their youth system in 1999 and for three seasons now he has occasionally played as a starter alternating with number one Juan Musso.

In the current campaign he has played six games and has a total of 128 appearances for the Bergamo club. In the last few days there have been meetings between Giuseppe Riso – Sportiello’s agent – and the Rossoneri management at Casa Milan to talk about the 30-year-old and about the possibility of him joining on a free.

Sportiello is significantly younger than both Tatarusanu and Mirante, with European experience and with an important number of high-level games under his belt. He also came through an Italian academy which makes him useful for the UEFA squad list.
