GdS: Milan and Inter battling for Thuram who admitted he ‘supported Milan’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter are both keen on signing Marcus Thuram on a free transfer given his contract at Borussia Mönchengladbach is expiring, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), both Milanese clubs are keen on the French striker who has 14 goals and 4 assists in 22 matches between the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal this season but will leave on a free and try a new adventure from the summer onwards.

Thuram’s future could be in Italy as Inter have been after him for some time, but he also appeals to Milan who are looking for attacking reinforcements and above all the striker for the future.

Milan could well be given a hand by the 25-year-old’s childhood too as he told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I don’t know why, but when my dad played for Juve, I supported Milan, when he moved to Barcelona I supported Real Madrid.”

To make it even more interesting, Thuram has an idol at both Milan and Inter: “I have always had great admiration for Romelu Lukaku. I followed him when he was very young, he has always been a source of inspiration for me. I hope to become stronger than him, I work every day to become one of the best at world. But I also like Zlatan Ibrahimović a lot. When you have Zlatan in the squad it’s an advantage for everyone. He motivates you to win, to do your best to succeed.”

However, several clubs around Europe are keen such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid and it is probable that Thuram will get a salary of €5m net per season for the next five years from one of the clubs interested in him.

  1. Inter is prepared to offer him 12 million gross per year. Now, who knows about Barcelona or PSG situation they probably want to sign him.

    1. With what money though? They’ll need to sell 1-2 “star” players to splash out such salaries. Especially if they plan on keeping Lukaku too. But not my headache though. The more they spend the bigger the fall will be when the FFP comes calling.

      1. No thats not true, Lukaku gets like 12.5M a year with the growth decree. They wont buy Thuram if they keep Lukaku, but they have a lot of money left when they cut his loan (which i think they will) they dont really need to replace Brozo, he barely plays and tbh Hakan (altough i dont like him) plays well in his position and they also have that Albanian guy, forget his name. If they go trough against Porto their market will be easier, FFP won’t punish them bc they rarely spend huge amounts, Dumfries was 12M, Hakan was free, Dzeko aswell. Their financial problems are just Zhang’s his mess, if he leaves their finances will look a lot better

        1. “Their financial problems are just Zhang’s his mess, if he leaves their finances will look a lot better”

They made a record loss of 245.6M€ in 2020-21 and just under 140M€ last year. Yeah, looks pretty damn good to me, LOL!

    2. They about to lose Brozovic and Skriniar, two players they absolutely must replace. Their budget is not great as well.
So, unless they sell Lautaro for more than 100 mil, I don’t see them spend so much money.

    3. He said 12 mil GROSS guys. From what I read is 10 mil gross. Don’t know exactly the net salary calculation, with all the decree and stuff tho. But Inter can afford him. Being the ‘replacement’ of Lukaku who earn 12 mil on salary.

  2. Milan should definitely get him, a good player and for free, we can’t sign players of this quality with no budget. I mean it is a no brainer for Milan unless something magical happens and they have funds to sign everyone that is needed…
