The AC Milan management know that an investment in a new striker will have to be made at some point in the next couple of windows, and the search has already begun.
Calciomercato.com recall the words of CEO Ivan Gazidis at yesterday’s shareholders’ meeting during which the idea of investment more into the playing squad was brought up, in order to further bridge the gap with the ‘elite’ sides in Europe.
“We are always in a process of growth, this increase in revenues means that we have more possibilities to make the market big. The money is available to make investments,” he said.
First on the agenda is some key renewals like those of Rafael Leao, Ismael Bennacer and Pierre Kalulu but then a new reinforcement will be sought for the attack as Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want to give Stefano Pioli a No.9 to entrust for the future.
The philosophy has not changed despite the club passing from Elliott Management to RedBird Capital. There are several names on the list, one of whom is Armando Broja of Chelsea, whom Milan have already held talks over and learned his €35m price tag.
Another profile followed is Noah Okafor who scored against the Rossoneri for Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League. His contract with the Austrian club expires in 2024 and there is stiff competition from Leeds to beat.
Finally, there is Jonathan David of Lille. The 22-year-old said he feels ready for the leap to a big club and while there are a number of Premier League sides that have been linked, Milan are watching at the window ready to pounce if the conditions are right.
