CorSera: What Pioli worked on before Juventus game to avoid psychological backlash

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face a potentially season-defining game tonight as they host Juventus at San Siro, looking for a win to respond to Inter’s last-minute victory against Venezia.

Il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes how the next two games will greatly affect Milan’s ambitions and goals between now and May, with a big response needed after the defeat against Spezia on Monday night. Against Juve tonight and in the derby with Inter after the break, Milan must show what they are truly made of.

Although Stefano Pioli does not like using the phrases crossroads and turning point, this does feel like a game where anything but a positive result would very much dampen the hopes of winning a 19th Scudetto. Milan’s mental strength is definitely there, and the team remains among the youngest in the league, but a step must be taken.

The paper talks about the fear of a psychological backlash and during the week Pioli worked a lot on his players’ minds, to get them in the right mental frame to face Juve, and he expects an important reaction from a group that has never betrayed him.
