The renewal of Nicolò Zaniolo’s contract with Roma is not yet resolves and AC Milan are observing the situation, a report claims.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Zaniolo has not made a clear decision either way regarding his future but given that his contract expires in June 2024 the situation is changing all the time and is described as ‘quite fluid’.
Roma director Tiago Pinto and the player’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, met in recent weeks and the signature seemed a matter of days away, or at most weeks. Since then there have been phone calls, but no new meetings and at the moment they have not even been put on the agenda.
There is a general commitment between the parties to meet again during the World Cup break, when there will be plenty of time to speak, but there are several pieces of the puzzle to fix.
One of these is related to Zaniolo’s salary which until last year was €2.2m net per season plus bonuses but has now hit €2.5m with bonuses, which he will earn for 2022-23 and 2023-24. To renew, Zaniolo is asking for €4m net per year fixed.
Another issue is linked to the evaluation of Zaniolo on the market in case an agreement to extend is not reached. It is clear that with a new deal signed until 2027, the Italy international would be worth the €70-80m that Roma were asking for up to two months ago. The presence of a release clause, perhaps in triple figures, should not be excluded.
For Roma, the renewal of Zaniolo is a priority because they cannot afford to lose a 23-year-old with such quality and potential for less than he is worth. However, Juventus, Milan, Tottenham and probably others are watching and waiting in case he decides to leave.

Please stay away from this guy. Every time I see him play he is bad. Tries to dribble too much, never passes the ball, thinks he is a far better player than he actually is. Always diving in the box. Can’t stand him.
